Must Make Monday – Bags!

I know everywhere you look on the internet you find a cool bag tutorial. I even have one here, (shameless plug). But over the last couple of weeks I’ve been finding some really ones and I just had to share them.

Honestly…WTF’s cool Knotting Card images from Hermes is a great resource for an easy way to make a bag out of a silk scarf. I love these. Seems much more worthy of collecting than baseball cards, right?

Project 52: Show and Tell – Week 8

Project 52: Show and Tell – Every week I’ll post a piece of artwork or something handmade from either one or both of my girls. By the end of year, creating a calendar of their work should be a snap. If you want to join in the fun on your own blog, please just link back to this page. I’ve also started a flickr group where non-bloggers and bloggers alike should feel free to post their kids’ artwork.

Week 8 is a triptych by my (just turned) 5 year old daughter, PZ.

Inspiration Wednesday – Blexbolex

I found the book, Seasons by French illustrator Blexbolex, at the library today and can’t stop looking at it. I am completely smitten with both the illustrations and the brief, but compelling story. I will be looking for more of his books next library visit.

Hubs has the camera today. Luckily I found some pictures of the inside of the book over at The Cat and the Cucumber.

Must Make Monday – Spring Wardrobe

As you’ve seen, I’ve been sewing like crazy for the Spring Palette Challenge. That doesn’t mean I’m not keeping my eyes open for cute tutorials for the girls though. Here are a few I may or may not get to before we leave next month, but I’ll definitely try sometime before summer. What are you making to spruce up the spring wardrobe?

Everyday Chaos – Apron Top, Prudent Baby – One Shoulder Dressy Dress, Craftiness is Not Optional (for Project Run and Play) – Scalloped Top, Me Sew Crazy – 20 Minute Ruffle Dress

Craftiness is Not Optional – The Sadie Shirt (sew along), Sewing in No Man’s Land – Retro Romper, Me Sew Crazy – Oh Jackie Dress, 3 Red Buttons – Cool Pockets Refashion

If you have boys make sure to check out the Celebrate the Boy tutorials over at Made By Rae. Happy sewing!

Birthday Business and Spring Palette Challenge 3

So we had PZ’s birthday party today and I managed to finish my dress in time to wear it for the big shindig. I used this tutorial, but added pockets. Its a bit shorter than I would usually wear, but I think it’ll be fine. I’ll just have to remember no bending at the waist!

It was a butterfly themed birthday party, as all of her birthdays have been, so I made this cake. I used a cake mold and this recipe. I also made cupcakes using this recipe. I cheaped out and used Betty Crocker frosting instead of making my own. As soon as I saw that the recipe called for me to use the double boiler I stopped reading and grabbed the store bought stuff. What can I say? It was already 10pm and I still had to finish the dress!

My crazy lack of cake decorating skills aside, the cake tasted wonderful! It has a lemon curd filling. Yum!

Project 52: Show and Tell – Week 7

Project 52: Show and Tell – Every week I’ll post a piece of artwork or something handmade from either one or both of my girls. By the end of year, creating a calendar of their work should be a snap. I’ve also started a flickr group where non-bloggers and bloggers alike should feel free to post their kids’ artwork.

Week 7 is a picture PZ, my almost 5 year old (her birthday is this weekend!) did at preschool after collecting a ladybug on our walk to school.

Spring Palette Challenge – Project 2

I know these are awful pictures and I promise to post some later in good light, but PZ’s bday party is tomorrow and I’m neck deep in cake and cupcake decorating plus I’m hoping to get a dress finished tonight. You can at least get a sense of the shape and cut. The fabric is gorgeous and I’ll post a close up of it later, too.

This is the first shirt I’ve ever sewn for myself. It was WAY harder than it should have been for such an easy tutorial. I tinkered with this and ended up having to cut down the neckline at the end. I’ll probably try making another one of these before our Hawaii trip next month.

Project 52: Show and Tell – Week 6

Week 6 is a painting PZ did at preschool.

Valentines for our Peeps and two new crochet WIPs

Here are the Valentines we made for the girls’ classmates. The first one is PZ’s. She helped me cut out all the hearts and glue them on. We did 6 different knock knock jokes.

Quinby helped make hers too. She glued the eyes on and told me which valentine went to which classmate. Then we used my butterfly shaped paper cutter to cut a bunch of paper butterflies out and spent about 30 minutes putting little butterflies on our noses and then blowing them off. She thought this was hilarious. Truth be told, so did I. Ah…hanging out with a two year old can be so nice sometimes.

In other news, two nights ago I found this crochet pattern on etsy and had to buy it. I’ve been looking for the perfect kitty tutorial to use for PZ”s Jenny Linsky doll. This reminds me of the Bla Bla dolls which I’ve always loved but never felt like spending all the dough on.

Another crochet project I’m working on is this one. I’ve started it three times now, (I’ve never crocheted in a ring before, so I’m trying to figure that out.) and have had to undo it three times. Luckily my friend Jenn is letting me come over for a lesson tonight. I know once I get it I’m going to be like, duh, but as of right now I’m like, argh!

Inspiration Wednesday – Year of the Rabbit

I found this great video from Benji Davies and Jim Field.
