Queen for a day or Turning the Big 3

I can’t believe my baby is 3 already! We had family in to celebrate and although we didn’t have her party until the Sunday after her birthday, on the actual day we did have lunch at Airplay Cafe. The girls enjoyed the band, Josh and Blake, and we all got to eat and dance and sing along. They had one song in particular called Ten Toes which was especially cute.

My little birthday girl got to be Queen for a day with the crown I made for her. I got the pattern from Soulemama, Amanda Blake Soule’s book The Creative Family. I bought the felt at Gossamer, a really beautiful local shop, and used some scrap fabric for the elastic in the back. The crown project was actually really simple and reminded me how much I love doing appliqué.

The party was an indoor picnic theme. PZ’s Nana helped the kids plant bean and flower seeds into recycled egg cartons for a fun inside activity and I made Popsicle stick flowers that doubled as rulers for each child to take home. She, of course, got lots of great gifts (Art Supplies out the wahoo!!) and all the kids had lots of fun. But the best part for me was that one of the guests, the woman who the month before we’d started this great Handmade Experiment with when we made playdough for her son, was inspired by that act and gifted PZ with the recipe and supplies for making our own bubbles. So cool! The Handmade Experiment is catching on!
